Father’s Day has always been a very special time for the Jarrett family.  Even though most of them have been spent at race tracks around the country, we have always tried to make Father’s Day a time for family.

I also know family is something that is very important to everyone at UPS.  During my years with them, I have found it quite interesting to see the different generations of families that have worked together to help make UPS the successful company it is.  And I have no doubt that the families who are watching and cheering for the UPS race car are the very ones who have made UPS an excellent shipping company for many years.

NASCAR has always been about family too.  Many famous families have enjoyed success on the track for many years in our sport.  Names like Petty, Allison, Earnhardt and Waltrip have been around for decades.  And fortunately, NASCAR racing has been very good to the Jarrett family.  I am very proud of the fact that my dad, Ned, and I are one of only two father-son combinations who have won Cup championships, with Richard and Lee Petty being the other.

Speaking of my dad, the UPS commercials we made together are some of my favorite memories from shooting the spots over the years.  I think it shows how much family really does mean to UPS that they allowed us to use their time to have some fun and help promote the UPS brand.

Now UPS has another family of racers representing them on the track.  I had the privilege of racing with David’s dad, Ken, back in the late 80s and early 90s.  He was a great and very fair competitor, just as David is today.  I don’t think it will be very long before we see David and his UPS Ford in Victory Lane!

Happy Father’s Day!!

My favorite racing memory with my dad would be Friday night treks to Stafford Speedway in Stafford, Ct. when I was a lad. We saw some of the Northeasts best clay track drivers in action. Wild Bill Slater in the V-8 car, Rene Charlan, Maynard Troyer, Bugsy Stevens, Pete Corey and “The Shoe” running the red and white #’s 11 and 111 respectively. My first hero was Pete Corey – at least until I figured out just how cool my dad was. Nat King Cole’s “Ramblin Rose” playing on the tinny speakers between races. I think of that song and I can still smell the fuel.

Great blog by Dale. He is a racing legend and a role model to all race fans. My favorite racing memory with my dad is every time we are at the track whether it be local or Fontana. My Dad is a AAA employee and was/is a big David Ragan fan and when we heard that David was going to be rolling in the UPS car was a surprise. I am happy David represents this great company and hope to see him and his UPS FORD FUSION in victory lane soon.

Thanks for the blog Dale! I sure miss watching you on the track! I’ve been a fan of yours since 1991 when you were driving the #21 car. Watching races just aren’t the same without seeing you out there but I’m still a fan. Best wishes to you and your family.
