News: Rain at Pocono
The term ‘Never Give Up’ is one that you hear a lot in the world of sports. Apparently, someone told that to Mother Nature on Friday, as light rain showers never gave up at Pocono. And because of the weather, qualifying for Sunday’s Pocono 500 was cancelled and the starting lineup based on points.
With David Ragan sitting 31st in the standings, he’ll have a little bit of work to do on Sunday to make it up through the field.
“Our UPS team is a little bummed out because obviously we want to be out there on the track and try and get things figured out,” said Ragan after rain cancelled Friday’s activities. “We’re in the race and this is a long race, so starting position is just a small fraction of it. When we’re 20 laps into the race, we’ll forget where we started. It will be fun to see the skies open on Saturday and get to make some practice laps.”
Pocono is a unique track with three extremely different corners. Nicknamed ‘The Tricky Triangle,’ the unique layout makes the 500-mile race a very physical one for drivers.
“We run a right-side window at Pocono, which makes it real hot. And now with the rain, the sun will come out and make it hot and humid,” said Ragan. “Running 500 miles is a long race no matter where you’re racing, but this is a challenging track. You’re always trying to work to get your car fast at the different corners. It’s mentally and physically challenging and makes for a long afternoon.”
Don’t forget to tune into QVC tonight to watch David make his debut on the program.
